Water scarce but not value scarce… thats how i define rajasthan. Some think that it is only sati, child marriage and female feoticide that portrays Rajasthan. But in reality many people dwelling here have a different perception to these social crualities.
In past people to kill their new born girl child made them smell hot sand, this cruelity was done mainly due to two reasons first to have no burden of dowry on their shoulders and second to secure them from the burden of going several miles in the drought prone areas in the hope of getting water.
SATI and Johar had some social reasons to. There was no status of a widow. Her condition was miserable and pityable.Commiting these acts would save her from sexual and physical assualt both by the society and by the mughals or british as well.
CHILD MARRIAGE had a social reason to adoloscents of marriageable age are bound to be choosy. If the marriage was between two children or babies there was no question of their having any sense of choice for the perspective suitors.
DOWRY came into existence as a token of gift given in form of movable property to the daughters as they had no share in the their parental property. But it was later that the kanyadan was termed as bride price.
I dont support the prohibitated what i intend to say is that the people who think that Rajasthan is bimaru or backward should think again.Progress is to move forward and we have always taken a path of evolution.Ours is a practical and not orthodox society. It made its own norms for the attainment of puplic good, followed it relentlessly and achieved its motive. Unfortunately ,we abided the principles too strictly and forgot the basis of them that was too be flexible with the changing time.
But i still see an opportunity in the calamity. People have started acknowledging the lneed of liberalness in the society… We have and will make history by our values and dedication.
